Project With Industry (PWI) Hospitality Grant
Projects With Industry (PWI) is a program funded through a grant from the Department of Education’s Rehabilitation Service Administration (RSA). Through this grant, funds are provided to agencies working with individuals with disabilities who have also experienced chronic homelessness. MHCD’s 2 Succeed program and Bayaud Enterprises are providing client services via this grant. These service providers work with individuals to find employment in a particular industry. For this program, the industry identified has been hospitality.
PWI is currently partnered with several hotels in downtown Denver including: The Oxford Hotel, Grand Hyatt, Sheraton, Courtyard by Marriott, Residence Inn, Curtis Hotel, and the Magnolia Hotel. Hotel partners work closely with program staff to identify job openings, evaluate potential applicants, and hire qualified individuals.
Participants in this program must go through an initial Intake Process, Eligibility protocol, Training, Classroom Orientation and Job Shadowing. The Job Shadow allows participants to gain some first hand experience in one of the hotels. Individuals spend two, 5-hour shifts shadowing various staff in one of the hotels. The departments most commonly shadowed are: housekeeping, laundry, kitchen/food services, front desk/lobby, and maintenance. Job Shadow experience can be tailored to better fit each person’s specific areas of interest and experience.
If you would like more information about the PWI project, or if you are a business that is interested in participating, please fill out the contact form and select “PWI” as your topic. Although this project is geared towards hotels, we are very interested in working with any businesses that deal with some type of customer service.
